Hi, I'm Julia. I'm a doctoral researcher in Scotland.
About This Doctoral Research
This is the first research study to look at experiences of image-based abuse from a Scottish perspective. Image-based abuse is a serious form of abuse and it is important to listen to the voices of those who have experienced it.

I am looking to speak to adults aged 16 years or older who have experienced at least one behaviour of image-based abuse (non-consensual taking, creating, sharing, threat to share and receiving intimate images). This includes any nude, semi-nude, sexual, sexualised, or other images that may be experienced as an intrusion or violation. You must have been 16 or older when this happened. This experience can be in any context (e.g. a current or previous relationship, a friend or family member, an acquaintance, someone you did not know etc.).
I'm especially seeking to capture the voices from diverse gender identities and sexualities, especially from those whose voices may not have been heard or have been neglected in the past.
Who can take part?
You can take part if you experienced at least one of these behaviours:
-
Your image was taken without your consent (e.g. in a private or public space, filmed up your skirt or down your cleavage, when engaging in a consensual sexual act, during a sexual assault, you were pressured or coerced to take an image etc.)
-
Your image was created without your consent (e.g. using Photoshop or AI software including ‘deepfakes’, screenshotting images without permission etc.)
-
Your image was shared without your consent (e.g. uploaded online including websites and social media, sent on via messaging apps such as Whatsapp, shown to someone else, printed to be shared as physical copies etc.)
-
Someone threatened to share your image (regardless of whether the image actually existed)
-
You received or had to look at an unwanted image you did not consent to (e.g. unsolicited ‘dick pics’, unwanted pornographic material etc.)
This happened in Scotland
(You do not have to be Scottish)
You were 16 years or older when this happened
How Can I Take Part?
